Sorry. I don’t mean to disparage jellyfish, but aside from certain politicians and more than a few talk-radio or television hosts, they’re the only spineless creatures I’m aware of. And I know I’m tilting at windmills every time I write about the juvenile behavior of some members of Congress, but jeez.
I guess I just can’t help myself.
At any rate, here’s something that seriously chaps my bunions. The Congressional Research Service, a non-partisan arm of the Library of Congress, created a report that contained information (i.e. facts) that Senate Republicans didn’t like. Instead of debating the issues they had problems with, the senators simply made the report disappear.
“The Congressional Research Service has withdrawn an economic report that found no correlation between top tax rates and economic growth, a central tenet of conservative economy theory, after Senate Republicans raised concerns about the paper’s findings and wording.”
Our Village has entered an era where one political party runs away from reasoned, rational debate, and chooses instead to hide, obfuscate or outright lie about demonstrable facts. From Jared Bernstein, a former economist for Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.:
This sounds to me like a complete political hit job and another example of people who don’t like the results and try to use backdoor ways to suppress them. I’ve never seen anything like this, and frankly, it makes me worried.
