For those of you with a philosophical turn, I’m passing along an interesting read about two veils: Opulence and Ignorance.
One could substitute veils with a fork in the road, I suppose; the point being, having to choose between two, different but unknowable outcomes.
Imagine . . .
Road #1: A mighty wizard whisks you down the road to a beautiful, unspoiled and undeveloped world. You are then handed an envelope, which you open and read the note inside. The note says this is a new world for you to develop however you desire. Millions of people will soon arrive, and everyone, including yourself, must follow the rules you establish. A P.S. at the end of the note says that you, the Great Developer, will enjoy a life of health, prosperity and good fortune from the very beginning. Now, create your new world.
Road #2: The same as #1, except the P.S. at the end says that you, the Great Developer, will have no idea at all about the life you will live in this new world. You may be the wealthiest person on the planet. On the other hand, you may be the poorest. You might enjoy perfect health all your days. On the other hand, a tree may fall on you the very first day, and leave you completely paralyzed for life, with no friends, home or income. Anything and everything could happen to you. Or for you. Or nothing at all.
Now . . . create your world.
Methinks one will be quite different from the other.
